I have installed SP1 this evening. I have sound on the laptop when viewing the internet and all system sounds are there. I can play my music files via RealPlayer with no problem. The problem is that I've opened Media player and gone through my library. When I for instance open an album and try and play a song, I get a message on status bar on the bottom of WMP which continually flashes up "media changing" and then one by one a red cross appears by the side of each track. At the end I get a pop up message which says "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help." I have clicked web help and checked the status of the audio device and it's enabled, checked for driver update and it says we are using the latest driver. Could this be problem with the sound driver or a problem with media player itself? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks. |

If it works in Real then it can't be your sound drivers, must be WMP. Does WMP work for other media like DVDs? What happens if you simply play music by inserting a CD? |

Thanks for your reply. Just an update on this. Last night I opened the control panel and went into sounds, straight away I got a pop-up message saying that some settings had been changed and did I want to restore them back, so I clicked ok. Went back into WMP and the files play ok now. Tried a DVD this morning and that works a treat too. So looks like it's all sorted now. Thanks. Lee. |

Sounds as if you got a driver update with SP1 that didn't work properly so Windows has rolled back to the previous one. Clever, ain't it! |
