itunes duplicate tracks

just bought a new pc and used an empty ipod to transfer my music over from old pc to my new one. after doing this i installed itunes on new pc and let it scan my pc. the problem i have is i have two of every track i had before but only one will work. any ideas on removing the duplicate copy?

"show duplicate songs" and delete all the doubles by hand.
# Open iTunes
# Select "Show Duplicate Songs" from the View menu (View > Show Duplicate Songs)
or the Edit menu if you have an older version of iTunes (Edit > Show Duplicate Songs).
Check before you do delete, that any tracks aren't duplicated on several albums, i.e. compilation albums, that offer the same track.
