Hi-Grade 1550 laptop sound problem

A problem has developed on my Hi-Grade 1550 laptop.
I am able to watch movies and play DVDs but without sound. The sound card is undetected. Error message display:
"Unable to playback audio. No sound device detected on your system. The movie will play, but you will not hear any sound."
Any idea how to solve this problem?

What program are you using to watch or is it happening in all applications you use to try and watch?
