Problem with itunes

Recently i downloaded & installed the latest update for itunes.When i run it for the first time a message popped up saying it wasn't the default player & would i like it to be,i clicked yes,it then displayed a message saying something about it couldn't carry out the request as i dont have the priveliges??I have updated this software in the past & the message about not being the default player has come up but i just clicked OK & it was fine,but this time it didn't work.Can anybody help?
