hi folks i just had my pc upgraded new mother board new cpu, and the man in the shop very kindly installed a 3d sound card for hee-haw (scottish for nothing)all well and good except i have no sound from media player 11, all other programs including other media players (nero, media player classic etc)do have sound, this is really annouing, any clue as to what this could be. i originally had wmp 10 but upgraded to try and alleviate this problem no joy tho michael |

First, to eliminate the obvious, the sound on WMP isn't muted is it? |

Sorry, didn't mean to make you out as stupid! ![]() Erm, having a little look now and the two things that are coming up every time is the mute button next to the volume being pressed, which we have already eliminated. And the codecs need to be reinstalled. Here is a recent thread on the problem from another forum: here. It offers a number of possible causes and solutions. |

When this happened to me, I had to reinstall the sound driver for the mobo - but that was onboard sound. (The sounds thing on control panel showed no device) So all I can think of is driver for sound card, and you might need the sound driver for the mobo as well. |

Try uninstalling and going back to 10, then reinstalling again. |

sorted it folks what had happened was my sound had reverted back to my mobo sound, but this has been disabled so i had to go to all the drop down boxes and select the sound card instead of my mobo sound (realtek ac97 audio) then right click my computer double click sound, video and game controllers, here i found my mobo sound wich i then right clicked and disabled, a quick restart and bob is as they say your aunties husband cheers for all the advice michael |

I'm not trying to hi-jack your thread, but I have the same problem. Only when I restored the audio to Realtek AC97 I only got sound back on mp3's. Playing DVDs I still have no audio. Any other suggestions? Thanks, johnnieq |
