windows movie maker dont stitch WMV clips? they play slower..any other program...

I have some WMV & MPG clips which i tried to stitch / join with windows movie maker but the final result plays very slow. can anyone advice me why is this ? or if there is any other free program that will stitch any video format to any format without loosing anything...(sorry if i am asking for too much)...cheers all...
