play dvd's

i've got a cd-r and a cd-rw drive on my pc (windows 98).
what do i need to be able to playback dvd's?
i've tried downloading windvd and sasami2k, but i can't get my d: or e: drive to recognise the disks.
any help would be much appreciated.

You will need a minimum of a DVD-ROM drive, priced around £30-35 these days

Also make sure you get one with playback software included.
