win med plyr 9 - no sound

I have just downloaded Windows Media Player 9, but can't get any sound from cd's etc - yet cd player still works properly. Probably something obvious & simple, but I can't see it!

Have you run through the Windows Help? It's good practise to always use this facility. It holds the answers to so many problems. It sounds an obvious thing to do, but so many people forget that it's there.
