Winamp

Having read a couple of posts here about the resource hog realplayer is, I got rid and installed Wimamp version 3 instead.

However since then I've had a few gripes, the main one being if I double click on a mp3 file through explorer it wont play. I have to find the file through winamp and add it to my library before I can play it?

I have associated mp3 files to winamp but when I double click a file winamp opens, but nothing plays! I'm hoping there is an option I have missed or havent ticked etc.

Any help greatfully received!

Cheers

Re: Winamp

I'm not going to be much help here, Elliok, not having Winamp, but there's a couple of things that come to mind.

Does the Winamp icon show next to MP3 files?

Have you checked that Windows Media Player isn't also trying to be the default MP3 player?

You could try right clicking an MP3, selecting "Open with", choosing Winamp and ticking the box that says "always use ...".

If that doesn't help, we'll just have to wait for someone who knows about Winamp.

Re: Winamp

You can just click and drag the files into winamp's play list editor and then click play. You could also try music match jukebox, i find this very easy to use and excellent for tag editing.

But a daft suggestion, are you getting sound from other applications, it could be your sound card or speakers.

Re: Winamp

I don't think it's a sound problem, Burr. The way I read it, it's more to do with associations in that a file won't play when he double clicks, but does if he drags and drops.

Your suggestion regarding playlists could solve the problem though.

Either way, Elliok, come back and let us know. That way we can keep trying if it hasn't worked, or if it has we'll know what to suggest if anyone else has the same problem in the future.

Re: Winamp

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

You are correct Barney, the sound is fine and it seems to be the associations?

I have associated my mp3's to winamp and have the logo next to them. I need to double check the suggestion above that WMP may also be associated. Hopefully that could be the cause. I'll check it tonight and let you know.

Thanks again for the help so far!

Re: Winamp

Quick update...

Have checked the WMP associations and all looks ok so no luck there.

Drag and drop is a good compromise and is making life easier so thanks for that suggestion.

It's frustrating as I have winamp installed on my pc at home and work. At work I can just double click on the file in explorer and away we go, but on the home machine winamp opens but plays nothing? I'm gonna double double check the settings on both again!!

Back to the drawing board!!
