Limewire

Hello Helpers

Does anyone on here use Limewire.
I have used it for while with no problems, until tonight.
It keeps starting up by its self.
Anyone know how to stop it.

Thanks Jeff

Re: Limewire

Avoid it like the plague. Eventually you'll end up visiting the Hijack This forums.

Re: Limewire

Thanks,
Think I will have to visit soon just to check my system and find out what is switching it on.

Re: Limewire

It installs itself to run at startup. Go to Start > Run, type msconfig and press Enter.

Click on the Startup tab and look for Limewire in the list. Click to remove the tick and restart your computer. On restart a box will pop up saying you used the msconfig facility. Put a tick in the box so it doesn't come up every time you start up.

Re: Limewire

Hi

It is not on my start up list.
It never used to start by itself, but if I switch it of it comes back on again all by its self, haven't a clue as to why.

Thanks Jeff.

Re: Limewire

Hi all
I just found this in the FAQ section of Limewire.

Q: LimeWire starts all by itself without me even clicking the icon to open it! When, I close it, it opens up again. Does my LimeWire have a mind of its own?
A: Yes, LimeWire is a sentient being. Just kidding! You have probably been infected with a worm. There is a worm called "Alcra" that has been circulating among Windows systems. It spreads by launching LimeWire so that other users on the network can download infected files on to their computers and continue to spread the worm to yet other computers. Please upgrade your virus definitions so that it can be detected and removed from your computer. Due to the speed at which new strains are released, your anti-virus software may not be able to detect it. In that case, you would either have to remove the worm manually or submit it to the manufacturer of your anti-virus software so that new virus definitions can be created.

Bit worrying!!!

Re: Limewire

Jeff

Limwire is absolutely riddled with viruses, trojans and God knows what else. You use it and it is almost certain that sooner or later your PC will be infected. On top of that most of the downloads are illegal anyway. Mouse has already made the point, you need to visit the HJT forum.
