Our computer in Turkey uses a dial-up connection with the Turkish Telecom people and direct access to the internet via Internet Explorer is no problem. However trying to send e-mails through Outlook Express via this provider makes the screen show a box asking for 'Authentication' We have spoken to the ISP and they know of no reason why this should occur. The only way we can send e-mails is by connection to the internet and then the ISP's website which is a long way round. It is my belief that the problem may lie in the settings of Outlook Express itself and may not be the ISP's problem. The programme is properly installed (possibly with a setting error) and works fine connecting to the internet. We are using Outlook Express 6.0 on a computer running Windows XP Pro with plenty of RAM and an adequate processor. If anyone can tell me how to correct this problem I would be grateful. I am due to go out there again next week and would really like to cure it. |

For Fifeflyer No, the box does not ask for username or password, which are already in place, and logging on to internet via Internet Explorer is no problem. Thanks |

A lot of ISPs will require authentication when you try to send mail , but only if you're coming in on a connection that does not belong to that ISP. However in your situation this is clearly not the case. To be honest I'm not really sure what the problem is , but as you have not had any more feedback there's a couple of settings you might want to check .Open O.E. and click on tools > accounts > in the "Internet accounts" box click on your account and choose properties > choose the "servers" tab > If the box with the wording "My Server requires authentication" is checked , uncheck it > apply > OK. If this doesn't help you can go back and reverse the changes. Whilst you're still in the "servers" tab settings , check the outgoing mail ( SMTP ) address is correct. Sorry i can't be of more help. Oh..... and have a safe journey .
