a yes and a no

hi, just wondering, i called BT to see if my exchange was able to get broadband and they said yes at 512Kb, not super fast but at least 10 times faster than dial up, excited with the news i got onto my isp AOL and they said NO exchange isnt able to supply it and bt are maybe spinning me a line about the supply to cover themselves, i then got back to bt and they said for deffinite that they could supply, i bit the bullet and said ok give me broadband and then, even although i would be a new customer, they said i would have to pay for the modem myself, i asked about any special offers of free modem or a free month but nothing, so im stuck on dial up at the mo until bt come up with some sort of deal to get new customers. a strange case between aol and bt of yes but no but.............cinz

Re: a yes and a no

Avoid AOL.

Here's BT's speel about modems

Quote:

** New customers only, when ordered online. If ordering by phone the standard modem router is £25 and the wireless modem router £50, if ordering Options 1 or 2, or £25 if ordering Options 3 or 4. All prices include VAT. Terms and conditions apply. Existing customers can purchase new modem routers at discount when upgrading. No connection charge applicable to upgrades.

or there's Wanadoo here

Quote:

Decide which connection option

We’ll give you a standard USB modem free, but if you want:

* a wireless connection
* a second phone line with free off-peak calls

select Wireless & Talk when you sign up. It’s free for six months then £4 a month after that. Find out more

Re: a yes and a no

The main problems with AOL is the amount of unncessarry software they try to get you to install.

Most users are finding they're getting logged off, and trouble reconnecting, you cannot use an alternate browser without suffering connection issues. Their prices seem higher than most other ISP's

Re: a yes and a no

thanx for that, your certainly right about all the software that has to be installed, some for safety, but with being dial up, it does seem to disconnect more, maybe it is time to make that change, new year new isp and all...........cinz
