On my PC, I just right-click on the 2 little flashing monitors icon in the Systray (near the clock) and then click on "Status". It gives the speed of my current connection there, amongst other things.

If only that were true Madeline. If it were I'd be getting 2.3 Mb per second when I'm only paying for 256 kb per second. It's the actual speed test that's needed.

Madeline, richie is right, that speed is never the true connection.
I have 1mb broadband, says connected at 1.1mbps but my connection is most likely at best around 900kbps but browsing is quick and most downloads hit 115kb/secs so i am not going to complain.

Just done that test and my results are
Downstream actual= 927 Kbps (115.9 KB/sec) true= 1001 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream actual= 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) true= 262 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Sorry, I think I misunderstood. I was referring to my dial-up connection speed. I didn't realise this was about BB.

I seem to remember reading some while ago that the speed you view by clicking your icon is the speed between your computer and the modem not the actual on line speed. For that you need to do an on line test.
You might try Here for dial up.

Thanks, Marcus. I did that test and the speed was slower than that shown on my icons. I'll put that site in my Favourites so I can get to it easily in future.
