Downloading photos from samsung mob 2 PC?how!?

Hello folks!
Ok I have a Samsung E800 with stacks of photos saved and I want to upgrade the mobile but need to get the pics to PC before I lose them.
I have a data connect cable.
I've logged on to the Samsung website and read some posts there on the subject and have followed what people have said about it all and posted my plights there as well...and have ground to a halt and still not been able to do this task!
I have downloaded from the Samsung site their software called PIMS - a file management system.... where you "simply" click on file, setup and enter your COM port, connect your phone up to the data cable and Bob is your Dad's brother.... except it hasn't worked at all... After MUCH faffing I have discovered that the PIMS is set to COM1 and cannot be changed and my PC (on XP) under "my computer" and "hardware" I have found that my port is set at "COM3"..now I know not a lot about compies (I know, I know had you all fooled huh? not!) but I reckon the PC cannot read my phone? So.... a) how do I change the PC to COM1 b) will this cause any cock ups to anything I have on the PC and c) even if I make that change will I be able to download these blasted photos!!
Exhausted Samsung user...!

That suggests that COM1 and COM2 are being used for some other device. In Device Manager (Windows key/PauseBreak, Hardware tab), Ports (COM & LPT), what other ports are shown?

I've got more or less the same problem with my SGH-E760 Samsung have enclosed software e.g. File manager, Image studio and Sync. I can get file manager to work, great, I can edit my phone book on the computer which is much easier, but the image studio will not recognize the phone, and I am unable to download any music files because I don't know how to get them changed into a .mmf extension. Samsung enclosed no instructions with the software, so I'm stumped.

Hi - ok I just looked under Ports (comm & LPT) and it says this
communications port (COM1) ECP Printer port (LPT1)
Is that what you meant?!

It is indeed. That shows that the main COM port is number one so you do have COM1 on your PC which makes me wonder why your phone thinks it can only find COM3. I would suggest you uninstall any Samsung software, reboot and then start agin with the installation.

Hi All, Having spent the last couple of months computer - less due to security faults and a phone line error; I'm far from a font of knowledge! :-) But I was at Caswilco's house last night and it seems the prob was due to opening the zip files. Cas has xp but 'winzip' appeared at some point of the blind leading the blind (although no winzip now) and also the usual xp zip / extract all files icon never appeared. Any advice on how we can figure how to open these files correctly, such as where to look for xp compression to check if its not been over-rided somehow? Many thanks in advance.....der
