Re: windows xp not shutting down and system check utility

Xp uses chkdsk,

Go to Start | Run | type in cmd

Type in chkdsk /f

Click OK

You may be prompted to restart your PC.. do so

The usual causes of XP not shutting down are that you have a faulty driver somewhere, and in the vast majority of those cases, it is the graphics card driver that is at fault, so check the integrity of the drivers and if necessary, ensure that you have the latest available

XP uses a whittled down version of diskeeper, and that was and still is the best available. However, one of the biggest issues is that pagefil.sys and hiberfil.sys are never defragged. This is because they are always being used

Downloading and running PageDefrag (35kb freeware) can overcome that obstacle.

The alternative is to buy the full version of Diskeeper, and to be honest, not worth the money!
