windows xp update

Hi! Can someone please help me around these winxp updates. When i try to download them from the microsoft update site it connects ok and i`ve installed activex but when i try to download them, for example, when i click on express my computer freezes and the internet explorer is not responding. Its not my firewall or anything like that i think. I dont know what it could be? I hope for some answers. thanks!
