Editing home made video/removing sound/cutting clips etc

Hi All...
Im on holiday right now and have taken some home videos with my camcorder which is almost 75% DVD quality. which program will allow to delete the background sound or replace it with soft music and also allow to cut clips from the videos taken. To convert the video clips (.avi) i already have into dvd format, i will be using a program called DVDFlick...any advices ??? thks all...
