Viewing Video problems

I am new to looking at videos, on such sites as You Tube etc. So I hope this isn't a stupid question. I find that the clip starts, then stops after a few seconds. It goes on like this and can take forever just to watch a 1 minute clip. Do I need to upgrade anything to correct this? I have XP Home: 512 RAM: Athlon processor 2500+, running at 1830 and video card is RAGE128 PR11
