I have built my last 2 computers myself, and it's not only satisfying, can work out much much cheaper, you also get exactly what you want. The most important thing is to check, double check and triple check compatibility between all your different components.
For me, 90% of the process of building a computer for the first time, was researching and choosing, 10% actually making, or in time at least.
