Well, I don't know who told you that Longplay because poetry is very popular. Lots of people involved in the writing world use the internet extensively for research and inspiration.
Good poetry is hard work and I personally know lots of amateur writers who enjoy searching for poetry sites. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but theres more then enough demand for quality sites that contain poetry.
