Was on painfully slow dial-up nd due to my remoteness was able to get satellite broadband - which goes from a satellite dish on the roof to my satellite modem. I have desktop PC which was working fine with dial up but when I plugged in the ethernet cable fom the satellite modem to the pc it didnt registe, the icon in the syste tray had red cross and when I looked at it the message was a network cable is unplugged. Even though there were no errors in devce manager for this, I then assumed that since my motherboard was a bit old and it had on-board ethernet connection I purchased a card and installed it and made sure of disabling the onboard one in BIOS. Still did not work. I unplugged from pc and plugged to laptop and it works fine. So obviously problem is with PC (running xp home latest updates) any suggestions? I really wnatmy pc hooked up as I want to then wireless my laptop via wireless router. Thanks for your help.
