Netgear ME102 Ethernet not connecting

I've just purchased a Netgear ME102 wireless access point, and I'm having problems getting it going. I think I've set everything up correctly using the USB config facility, but when I plug it into another computer via the ethernet cable the PC thinks the network cable is unplugged.
I'm trying to use the ME102 as a wireless bridge.
Has anyone else had similar problems who could offer advice?
