Update on my issue.
i uninstalled google as you suggested and still nothing on my tool bar. so i went to add and remove to see if there was anything in there still left. as i scrolled down i noticed under windows internet explorer 7 there was a windows internet explorer 8 that MSN had suggested upgrading so i downloaded it and tried to instal it and i remember it saying it was incompatable with what i was using and it shut down so the now obvious to me problem was it was conflicting in the back ground. i assumed it had not installed but it had. once i removed this and opened up my IE7 everything was back to normal and all the tools appeared and my back space started working again. so in hindsight if you come across any one else with a problem like mine ask if they have tried to upgrade to windows explorer 8 and if so uninstal it and then maybe their browser will be back to normal.
