I have been working nights, and didn't have a chance to get to the girlfriends place to do the things you asked until tonight & being new to this site i didn't realise that the post would be close within 7 days. So again sorry.
I have run the Hijack thingy again, checkmarked and 'fix checked' the 02 file as suggested, rebooted, but when i launch the hijackthis again ready to select config as you suggested, i can't find it anywhere ?? am i being dum ? it only gives me the options of scan & save etc....
In answer to the other questions, it is her home laptop, however she does have quickbooks on it that she backs her work stuff up on & thats it. She also backs it up in 5 other places !! (women!) It only has one user account, well it goes straight in doesn't require a password.
I don't & nor does she have a clue what the symantec stuff is on it so i would say it isn't in use.
