Gmail and Outlook problems

Hi!

I’ve just registered with Gmail and wanted to add it to Outlook Express, but failed to do that. I get an error message (the code is 0x800CCC1A). I found numerous topics about it on the Internet, but nothing has been of any help..

I did everything like they said on Gmail Support page – enabled POP on Gmail itself, then configured Outlook according to the support page. I first downloaded the auto-configuration tool, then, after failing, tried configuring it by myself.. I know that some people have problems because they write their username in the account field when you have to write the full e-mail, or don’t check 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)', or forget to enter '465' in the 'Outgoing mail' field, but I did everything exactly like it’s written on the page.

But I still get that error message.. I really don’t know what the problem is and how I can solve it. Can somebody please help me with it?

I use Windows 98 and Outlook Express 6.

Cheers!
Anastasia
