IE7 not connecting to attachments etc

I have IE7 installed (as well as firefox). When I am on a website and try to connect to an attachment it comes up with the message "Internet explorer cannot display this page". It tends to happen when I want to play an attachment or link that is audio or of a movie.
Is there some settings I need to change?
BTW I have no problems with firefox, it opens all the links and attachments that IE7 wont
