Been where you are spoke to India head butted the wall got a MAC code now with sky and things have worked perfect since, been with them for 2 months now ever since AOL they started the migration to the car phone warehouse.
A piece of software will not cause a copper line fault, I found AOL tech support simply frustrating if the fault did not follow the flow chart they use.
