temperamental router light

My internet light goes out mostly when I am not on the computer it does happen sometimes when I am on the computer it is not a problem because I switch the router off and on and it returns.The other day the house lights dimmed and the internet light went out,as I said it is not much of a problem because it happens now and then but I would like to sort it out.
