i have a couple of problems & im not very clued up in computers so if any one is kind enough to help me please keep it in real easy instructions my 1st is when leaving my computer on it goes to screen saver which is norm i know but after a while weather im connected to the web or not my computer seems to crash i cant do anything except switch off at plug then back on then it tells me i didn't shut down propley well of course i didn't shut down prpopley cus it would'nt let me ? next problem is when connecting to the internet it takes a real long time for my home page to come up unless i click close then back to internet explorer or click home alot till it appears which im told is not a good idea so ive stopped doing that. it comes eventually but i normally have to click refresh but comes real quick when clicking close then back on internet explorer. martin - warwick - Sat Apr 27 16:16 2002 reply First question first, which screensaver, believe it or not, certain screensavers in Windows have problems. Try using a diferent screensaver to see if that solves the problem. Personally I don't use screensavers, they slow down the computer too much. Screensavers aren't necessary anymore!! Once upon a time in the dayys of green screens, leaving images on the screen for too long meant that the image would be burnt into the Cathode Ray tube, but those days are long gone Unfortunately, you have discovered one of the joys of the internet with your problem with your download a page, you may just happen to click exactly the same time as a hundred other people! There is litle you can do about it other than the remedies that you have already mentioned Iain Wolstencroft - Accrington - Sun Apr 28 08:34 2002 reply Windows98 - New folder appeared in C drive Windows 'ES Logs' event system 3/14/2002. Error COM+E.S. bad return code HRESULT was 80080005 from line 39 D:\n3\private\es\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. Now, can I just del the file as nothing seems to be wrong. Have emailed MS USA, told me to contact UK, I did, who gave me a phone No, but looks an expensive one. Don't really want to phone if not necessary - can anyone put my mind at rest over this issue. Many thanks John - Barnsley - Sat Apr 27 15:06 2002 reply Iain, anyone, can help please? I was trying to play it through my CD/RW. Keith Taylor - Oldham - Fri Apr 26 19:48 2002 reply Hi!. Help would be appreciated. Today when attempting to open an audio cd a program box opened up with the message "Programme not found" Windows cannot find RealPlay.exe. Also the desktop icon has changed from a picture to the microsoft flag and tweakui can't repair it. I have just installed Clean 3 the record copying software and wonder if this might have something to do with it. I don't think its a virus problem as it seems to be the only program not working and use an anti-virus prog. I am running windows98SE. help in getting my CD/RW Drive working would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Keith Taylor - Oldham - Fri Apr 26 18:51 2002 reply Been updating my rescue disks for Norton Anti Virus. My NAV is telling me I need 7 disks. The disks are labelled according to the NAV guidelines, but somehow, it seems to be telling me that I need 2 disks both labelled "NAV Definitions 4". I am confused. How can 2 disks have the same name? How will I know which one to use first? What am I doing wrong? I have created a new set, using new floppy disks, but still find that I am being asked to create 2 disks called NAV Definitions 4. HELP! Eddie - Ilford - Thu Apr 25 19:11 2002 reply Hi Eddie, I had exactly the same thing to sort out a couple of days ago. I don't know why it needs two NAV 4 disks but I did it anyway!. My suggestion to your query about which one to use first is to label each disk along the lines of NAV 4a and NAV 4b. It may not be very scientific, but I hope it helps. If anyone knows more (or better) please post. Regards, Steve. Steve - Leeds - Fri Apr 26 01:05 2002 reply Yes, already done that, NAV4a + NAV4b, but why the hell does it need 2 NAV4's anyway? I am running windows 98 on a laptop (sorry) It is second hand and has no windows 98 disc. It has just cost me £10.00 to be told that the PC shop can not find my problem? Basicaly I can't download files anymore ie update my virus scanner. When I click on a file download icon it goes straight to the animation box of the file being transfered but no time remaining bar moves etc. I no longer get the first box asking if I want to save to disc or run from current location. After about 10 minutes I get a time out and message that file can't be downloaded. I have not installed anything new since this problem has started and at a loss on what to do next, apart from to throw laptop through window. Any suggestions (basic??) gladly received thanks. Glenn - Derby. - Mon Apr 22 19:24 2002 reply Glenn, I think the problem is with your connection. The reason you are not getting to the Server on which the file is stored, which would explain the timeout and the lack of movement in the download bar . Hopefully Ian will know the easy way but this is just my experience. My post is just below.
