Hi,
Assuming you're running Windows, have you tried using System Restore? Putting the beast back to the time it would boot, may solve everything.

"revision levels are incompatable" may mean you set the PC's power settings to a sequence it doesn't like. Such as HDD shutdown before warning or screen off or standby etc...

I am assuming the error message appeared while you were still in Power Options.

I'm glad you rejected the £1.50 helpline ripoff. I've never known a problem googling and forums like this can't solve. This isn't the busiest, so if you need further help, try PC Advisor's forum, or GadgetDetective.com.

Should the PC (or battery) prove faulty in the guarantee period, your rights are squarely against the RETAILER - Asda. However much they try to palm you off to help£ines or manufacturers, they play ball when the Small Claims Court summons reaches Head Office.
