[HELP] CD Images

Hello, I have a couple of questions and are hoping I can get some expert help.

My friend has just come of holiday from Germany from seeing' her good friend and she brought home with her a couple of picture Cd's that he had created for her. These images are all stored onto a CD-R disk and she would like to view them. She wanted to view them on her DVD player, but after trying it out, the CD wouldn't play; then I realised her DVD player didn't support CD-R disks, so I advised her to buy a new DVD player that does.

To be able to view pictures on the DVD player, do the images have to be in a certain format? (i.e. GIF; JPEG etc.)

She would also like to view them on her PC. Now she gave me this program that she wanted me to install and I assume it was a program for her to view the images in some sort of slide show presentation. The software turned out to be German and came up with an error message that I couldn't understand and therefore it didn't install

I then told her I would look around, or ask around for something English and maybe a bit more simple for her (as she isn't a heavy computer user)

I'm asking' here now if anybody knows of a program that is very simple to use, that will allow her to insert the picture CD into her PC and open the program and the images will load up into some sort of way and allow her to view them in say a slide show and possibly with other features, like add music to the background and so forth.

One last thing... is it possible to view picture Cd's with a normal CD-ROM drive? will the CD still work? or would she need CD-R drive?

Thanks you for your help. I hope you can help me out with my query.
