Re: speedtouch st330 Vista driver?

Hi I had the same problem as everyone who has responded to this.

I too rang my ISP who advised to ring Thomson and was advised of the £2 cd, however the drivers are downloadable, which will avoid you paying the £2 postal fee.

There are two drivers, they are both the same drivers. They are both the same except that one is configured for GB settings.

Firstly the speedtouch modem st330 is compatible with Vista, however you must firstly uninstall the old speedtouch software & drivers, if you run the new drivers over the old software, it causes conflicts.... Believe me i have done it.

Navigate to tomson website - http://www.thomson.net/EN/Home/MiniSites...p;searchrank=1. Download UK Version of ST330/USB MS Windows Vista driver here - (Vista41C.exe), run the setup file.

You will be prompted to select your required settings, if this appears select connection type 'pppoa' & vci '0.38'. Once setup is complete a new icon will appear on desktop 'My ISP' - this is the short cut to select when connecting. Remember to restart computer firstly. Unfortunately for me, once i had selected my settings and attempted to connect, i was returned unable to connect error. I went through all the settings, if i had just simply restarted the computer after each one it would have worked.

Believe me this was a knightmare, first the setup.exe could not create a Thumbs.db file, upon investigating this, this file is a systems db file and it was created but was hidden. In the end i flattened my c: drive and reinstalled vista using the D drive dell support, this did the trick and the file successfully created.

My speedtouch connects every time and it is not temprimental. Getting this driver to work, takes a lot of time & patience (trial & error), attempting multiple combinations.

Yes as one person said it would be easier to connect via Ethernet, therefore no driver is required, however if you are like myself and was only supplied the USB connection, and don't wish to go out buy additional kit, then the USB connection will work. Try what i have explained, fingers x you wont have any more problems.

** I hope this information is useful to readers, hopefully, the aim is that you do not go through the same agony as myself and these other people alike.
