I can sympathise with your friend- I'm in the same boat and this is the nearest I've got to help on why I can't connect to the internet.
I'm honestly feeling rather disillusioned that it is such a hastle.
How much should this Vista-compatible modem cost? And how easy will it be to install, given I can only just turn the laptop on (7 years of a work laptop has spoilt me)?
