Connection to AOL

I have been connected to AOL9 for some time with no problems. Today I have been unable to connect and get a message. "Your modem was unable to establish a DSL connection". I have tried everything that AOL suggested to correct it to no avail.
I have an older version of AOL7 still on the computer and when I try to connect via the DSL there are no problems at all. This seems to me that there isn't a problem with the modem.
Any suggestions please.
