If you can still access your Freeserve e-mail address, then you're lucky. I assume that you don't still pay a monthly fee to Freeserve, so you must be on a PAYG tariff. Freeserve's policy states that a PAYG user who doesn't dial-up the Freeserve servers regulary will have his/her account closed.

Registering a domain name will guarantee that whatever your ISP does, you will always have the same e-mail addresses.
