is 3gig download limit enough

Will a 3gig a month download limit be enough for me to surf the net for a couple of hours a day and use msm messenger an hour or so a day? i will not be downloading songs or films
and more importantly will using msm mesenger use same download amount as general surfing the net
ie. if i use msm for 1 hour will i use approx the same amount of download amount if i was to surf for 1 hour
