Loss of IE and file management functions
      #274737 - Sun Apr 16 2006 11:05 PM

Hi there - I have rencently developed the following problems:

When I type a web address into the IE address box and then either click 'go' or hit return, nothing happens - at all. However, I can access internet through favourites or through Google, etc.

If I try to save, move or copy a file (jpeg, word, etc) I cannot navigate the drop down lists - if I click on the drop down button the whole program seizes with only the egg timer showing. When I close the program I get the usual 'program not responding' box.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've run avast! antivirus but it detected nothing untoward.

Grateful for any advice ...

Do a system restore to a date before your problem started.

That seems to have sorted the problem, thanks.

The strange thing is exactly the same thing happened to my pc at work today, without me 'infecting' the machine with imported files etc.

Is it possible that hitting a combination of keys can cause such faults? Or was it caused by something from the internet? (though the sites I've visited recently are pretty straight, eg amazon) ...

be careful may I suggest you download Spywareblaster which will help stop nasties getting into your system in the first place and make a donation because the freebies in my opinion are better than the rest. Take no notice of my specs apart from Spywareblaster and lavasoft ad-aware personal the others I am just testing.
