Hi, great to of found this place and although by no means a whizz will help where I can but at the minute got a bit of a puzzler.
A couple of things but think they are all related.
"operation cancelled due to restrictions in effect on pc" msg
Windows security alert says potential spyware "making unauthorized copys of system, run scan now"
Home page always going to google.
Basically every minute or so get a windows security alert popup saying spyware etc, even tried installing the crappy product but still happens. But the main problem is control panel is not visible and any action inc add/remove via explorer results, opening windows security alerts etc results in "operations cancelled msg etc"
Have visted MS support centre and "operations cancelled etc" msg relates to ie6 and hotfix available but also part of SP2, problem is it says because of problem I cannot download anything!
I have ran spybot, spydoctor,ad-aware btw and no joy.
I fear format the only way?

That message is always caused by malware unless you've intentionally made registry changes.
