I defragged my computer a couple days ago and believe it has corrupted or removed the kernel32.dll file. Every time I turn the comp on it almost gets to the Windows logon screen but restarts every time. I know that the Windows XP recovery CD can be used to retrieve a new version of the file but I don't have this CD. My comp came with Windows 98 but I was able to upgrade to XP Pro through an agreement my school had with Microsoft, problem is I didn't get to keep the CD. Gateway has told me I can revert back to Windows 98 but I would like to keep XP. Is there anyway to retrieve the file without the CD? Or a way to get a hold of another copy of the CD? Possibly use the CD of another computer? Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
No seriously, I was in a VB.net programming class where we were eligible to upgrade our computers at home to XP in order to run the VB program more efficiently. I don't have a cd though so I might just be screwed.
