My DVD and zig-zag edges

I have just managed to transfer some footage taken on my Sony Handycam to my PC by playing the little dvd disc on a dvd player and capturing it with the Videoh Adaptec Media Center and 'My DVD' software. This was quite a struggle so imagine my disappointment when I discover the captured film has zig zag edges whenever there is movement. Can Anyone suggest what I can do about this please?
