JVC GZMG57EK Camera - editing software advice needed!!

Hi, I've just bought a JVC GZMG57EK video camera and tried using the software that comes with it, but am finding it really unfriendly. The camera's got a MPEG2 hard disk drive and I'd love to find something like windows movie maker that supports hard drive cameras and lets me easily edit my film on my laptop. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Also,Is there anything out there that works for both PC and Mac?
