Windows Media Player in Firefox or IE won't play back vids
      #294063 - Mon Jul 17 2006 12:02 AM

for example:
http://www.mediuh.com/2565-family-guy-peters-milkshake.html
will not play in either IE 7b3 or FF1.5.0.4

They USED to on my old system, but not now. I'm not sure why. I'm currently only using the Windows XP firewall and they won't even work when I turn it off.

I also have Norton AV Corp installed.

Can someone gimme some hints to what I need to check to make it play?

Thanks for your help.

You could try uninstalling IE7 for starters.

Thanks for the rather un-inspired suggestion.

However, I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing ie6. After uninstalling ie7b3 and launching the ie6 installer, windows told me something along the lines of "you have a newer version of IE installed. Installation canceled"

Please note that this issue did NOT start with the installation of IE7b3. Vids did not work in IE6 either. I wish I could pinpoint the exact time this issue started, but alas, I cannot.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be most grateful.

Check this out for WMP & Firefox support and to fully uninstall IE7, go to Add/Remove programs, ensure check for updates is selected at the top of the Window, uninstall IE7 and when you reboot IE6 will return in its place.

IE6 is integrated within Windows and unless you know what you're doing will remain installed.

What greysts advised was inspired and correct.

unfortunatly, fully uninstalling IE7 still does not solve the issue so what I said about his solution being uninspired stands (imho) and was quite incorrect, althought I do appriciate the responce.

Also the link you provided didn't do the trick either. Thanks for trying though.

What version of WMP are you running?

It worked fine for me using Firefox 1.5.0.4 once I'd allowed it on NoScript, but I haven't tried it in Internet Explorer (IE6).

Not a wise statement as it was aimed at the most knowledgeable person on these forums. Nice one, well done!!!
