Since having upgraded windows media player to version 10 I have been unable to play dvds, media player displays a message saying that a compatible dvd decoder is not installed. Using DivX gives the same error message.
"windows xp video decoder checkup utility" - downloaded from the microsoft website says that a ArcSoft MPEG Video Decoder (version 2.4.0.19) is installed.
Re-installing media player 10 does not solve the issue - do i need to install an earlier version of media player (and undoubtedly suffer a barrage of pop-ups telling me to update to a new version!!!!!) or are there other options???
It's possible it's removed codecs from when you installed it, how though I don't know. Try reinstalling DivX player again with the codec pack or try K Lite Codec pack
