Hi godwears7 and welcome to the forum. If you have no problems playing other avi files then this particular one may be corrupt or damaged. Did you download this via P2P ?

hi and thanks for the welcome yes i did load it from a p2p but i've downloaded others and it is only this file that seems to do it , the annoying thing is i've downloaded about 3 different copies and everyone does the same thing , and it is an episode of a series which is the frustrating thing , any ideas ?

godwears7 , I've no wish to lecture you so i won't , but i have to stress that file sharing is a very risky business. One of the problems is that you are trusting someone you don't know , that the file they are sharing with you contains what it says it does. In reality it could contain a virus that is unloaded the minute you open it.
The file in question is almost certainly corrupt , and at best it's unplayable , and at worst , has infected your PC.
If i were you i would get rid of it , and do a complete scan of your PC for infection.
If you are fortunate and your PC is clean , and you wish to run the risk to get this file , then try another source. In all honesty i don't think it's worth the risk.

It may be coming from the same source on the file sharing network and i wouldn't be surprised if you're not the only one that's cursing.
Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

AVI files can be played perfectly in VLC Player...ive used it for a while and it has most codecs built in

Search for it on Google, its FREE!

I agree with Fife about P2P but as far as media players go dlg is right on the money with VLC.
Ive used it for ages now and its is rare it comes accross a file it wont play.

Have to agree about VLC, its a great player. What I cannot understand is this being a free player yet it has more codecs than WMP which isnt really free.

You can't get some of the codecs without them wanting a fee.
