I have downloaded the Free program (direct from Grisoft Servers)and taken off all my other Spyware/adaware stuff (add/remove programs)and I am still unable to get past a message saying the installation has detected ewido antispyware or ewido Adaware still on the computer.
This is even after manually checking for any left over bits. I am also unable to download the file from the download.com site as I get to a page saying thankyou for downloading this file after clicking on the download now link on the download site.
Other posts I have seen refer to letting the installation deal with uninstalling other avg stuff but I do not get that far
I get the same as for the other download - If I go into the registry looking for stray entries do i just look for the ewido ones???
any advice on deleting these would be greatly appreciated as i have used AVG for many years with no problems until now and I would like to carry on using it baring any other problems once loaded

Basically yes. Look first of all for an entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ewido and delete if it's there . Next , in the toolbar , click on edit > find > and type in ewido . Click find next . If it finds anything delete it. Then go back to edit > find next. Repeat this until no more entries are found.
Have to stress you edit the registry at your own risk. Any mistake/s made could render your pc unusable and in the worst case scenario mean you have to reinstall windows. If you're not comfortable with the registry leave well alone. Before editing back up the registry and/or create a system restore point.
The other option is to use a dedicated registry cleaner or an app such as CCleaner.
i too am experiencing this problem,i cleaned the registry of all entries of AVG and ewido but can still not install AVG8.upon trying to install it stops and informs me that AVG or ewido anti spyware or anti malware is installed on this pc.
Bladerider that is exactly what I have done to date and I have used CC but it has not removed all the Ewido keys in the registry. I even use regscrub XP and that hasn't removed them either, why should CC leave those registry keys I dont know.
A check in the registry using find Next/Now shows up around 8/10 ewido keys and it looks as though I shall stick with Avast, wonder how many others have experienced the same problem and thought sod it I'll try another program??
