This new version,4.0, of SpywareBlaster has just been issued. The following is from the developers, including a link to download the new version:
Quote:
Hi,
While either method should work (an "over-the-top" install or a clean install), we recommend using a clean install to upgrade to the 4.0 release.
Clean Install Instructions:
1. Open SpywareBlaster and press the "Disable All Protection" link under "Quick Tasks". 2. Close SpywareBlaster. 3. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the entry named "SpywareBlaster v3.5.1" 4. Download the latest SpywareBlaster installer from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html 5. Install the new version, and enjoy!
Best regards,
-Javacool
The new version includes the following extra features: -Full Vista support -Protection for Netscape -Protection for Seamonkey -Protection for Flock -A brand-new user interface -Various feature and protection enhancements -Further optimizations to every part of the program -And lots of other bug fixes and requested tweaks

Too late to edit, but I should have mentioned above that you may have to reboot your PC after installing SWB v4.0, even with a clean install.

Thanks Madeline, no reboot required after removing the old version with Revo uninstaller in Advanced mode which removes the leftovers and a clean install of SpywareBlaster 4.0 All the best.

How do you use Revo uninstaller in Advanced mode? Do you change it in Options?

I hope you've got it by now shirazee. The trouble is it's bound to be a very popular download, it's been awaited for a long time now especially by people who use Firefox and Spybot 1.5. There was a slight problem between Spybot 1.5 and SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 which meant that the Firefox protections took much longer to load in SWB. Javacool said that this would be fixed with SWB 4.0 and it has been. By the way, I downloaded SWB 4.0 from MajorGeeks in Florida as Mike did. It didn't seem to take long.

No, just highlight the program set for removal, uninstall and then choose.... Follow the prompts to remove the leftovers.

I have downloaded the new version on both the laptop and desktop. Although In my haste I didn't uninstall the old version from the laptop. Seems to work ok though.

Excellent!! From what Heather says it seems that you can get the new version successfully without uninstalling the old one first. Although Javacool said you should be able to do this, it could be safer to do a 'clean' install, just in case anything goes awry... that's probably why they said it!

Thanks Ray, I've just read it myself through your link! I've read some of Professor NOObie's other tutorials before now and they're excellent.

I read this as well but I also noticed that one of the top microsoft technicians was recommending that you don`t install it on Vista because of the amount of extra registry entries it creates(10,000)and apparently Vista was not designed to cope this.I have the program installed at the moment but I have to say I was tempted to uninstall it,although as the laptop seems to be working fine anyway I did`nt. I use Vista Home Basic.

I saw that too and I took it with a large pinch of salt! I'm not a Vista user, nor will I ever be on its current showing, but I would still have SpywareBlaster whichever Windows OS I run. It's only his opinion after all and how good is M$ on security anyway? Good for you for keeping SWB; obviously if it causes problems, you'll have to think about it again. For now, if it works for you, definitely keep it!

You're absolutely right, it's even better now. There was a database update yesterday (04.01.2008), so everyone should check for updates if they haven't already done so. The new total of items in the database is 9847.
