Hard Drive cleaning software
      #292660 - Mon Jul 10 2006 02:02 PM

Hello, what software would be recommended for cleaning up the hard drive?

I'm after software that deletes folders and files of uninstalled program files as i have noticed that there are folders on my hard drive of programs that i have uninstalled.

I don't need anything to delete my temporary Internet files as i use CCleaner to do that and more.

You could try C Cleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/ this is a free program and very easy to use. Alan

Are you going to add to that quote Zer0?
Some programs do leave their folder behind in Program Files. This usualy contains settings and preferences incase you reinstal the program. I just manualy delete them.

I would think it's self-explanatory.
Ive given the information in my first post on the software i would like.

I don't want to keep going through my C-Drive deleting all these folders when a piece of software could do it.

Attitude change is needed here i think Zer0. There is no need to behave in such a rude manner.

I have no attitude, that comment was not made with attitude.

And it does explain itself, i want some software that sweeps away/deletes all the folders and anything contained in them left by uninstalled software.

I would have thought before someone replied they would have read my post, but it seems alan098 didn't read it thoroughly.

I said i use C-Cleaner already to prevent someone recommending software that i already use.

If i come across as having an attitude then i do not mean to do so.

I know that people don't have to reply but i would prefer members making recommendations to at least read my post before replying, i am not asking for much.

If he had suggested different software then i would have thanked him for his suggestion and tried the software out then posted if it had helped me or not.

I do not wish to be rude but The_DADDY if you are not going to recommend any software that i could use would you kindly take you're opinions to personnel message so that we will not continue to go off-topic.

As far as i know manual deleting is the only way. I did some research on this a year or so ago as i didnt want to do it myself but came up with nothing.
To be honest you cant have that many program folders to remove that it would take more than a few minutes to go through.

I think CCleaner is one of the best around anyway, and it will remove those bits left behind by uninstalled programs.

Another good freebie is Easy Cleaner

You could also have a look here if you're felling brave and want to let programs into your registry.

Have to say RichieP Easy Cleaner is an excellent programme and one i've used for a couple of years without problem. If it's ok though can i just add that i would advise caution with the duplicate files option , as your pc may sometimes require duplicates of a certain file. It is an option that i personally think would be best not to use

It's a good point. The first time I used it I couldn't decide which I should keep, and which I should let it remove. I just left them all.

A word of caution about the 'Easy cleaner' site. It got a red warning from McAfee SiteAdvisor and the Site Details said:
Quote:

When we tested this site we found links to sexspy.com, which we found breaches browser security on our test PC.

There were other red links too and a yellow one, so be careful there. They do say that the 'Easy Cleaner' download is safe though.

I will take caution with it, I'll see what McAfee Virus scanner says about it.

So far it does seem useful even though it crashed when i minimized it and it refused to maximize or do anything.

Edit - It doesn't get rid of the files on the hard drive and it is a bit unstable so Ive uninstalled it, thanks for recommending it.

I take it you mean Easy Cleaner, not CCleaner?. If so, have you tried CCleaner?
