Blocking illegal downloads I agree with but blocking legitimate operations I don't plus I think the 18 month contract is too long. If the total product becomes more than buying BB separate from another ISP overall because they increase call charges how much will it cost to get out?

The fact that the TalkTalk advertisement has been referred to the advertising watchdog should tell you a few things. 'Free' is one thing it ain't!

Thanks for replies, I was looking from the point of view that we have been with Talk Talk for quite some time now and we pay line rental to BT. So taking on BB we would def. save £200 a year, which kind of eases the 18 month gamble. furthermore our bills with them have been reasonable !

Is this new "Free" Broadband service up and running yet?
If so, are any Webuser readers using it and do you have any feedback you can share?

We have just become Talk Talk Customers by a roundabout route (and 1 switch) We Started with BT...Switched to British Gas who in turn sold the Telecom business to Onetel who have been absorbed by Talk Talk (still operating as Onetel for now) Latest Bill is Headed "Talk Talk"
So... Do we now qualify for the "Free Broadband" offer? Got a Landline (no Mobiles)

The "offer" is linked to you taking out the Talk3 International calling Plan which is a £29 connection rate and £11(per month?)line rental plus the £9.99 charge monthly (18 month contract) BT is also an £11 rental and £14.50 monthly charge.
PROs TT has a 0p call charge to US ,France & Spain (24/7)
Cons TT is only Fractionly lower than BT in Mobile calls
Overall I think this will work out evenly, costs are about £2 difference
Ask yourself do you need this plan? Have not seen the rivals method of charging (as I do not want a Mobile) There will be more Jumping on the Bandwagon before the year is out .So take your time in choosing a Plan (and commiting yourself)

BedstorforrmAP Iappreciate that it will take some thought to change, but they say that you will get for your 9.99 + 11.00 per month, also 1 off payment 29.99 :-
unlimited calls to any Uk landline and unlimited calls to 28 countries incl. USA Australia and New Zealand and free Broadband as long as you stay with them. As I said before we are with them and have no mobiles so I have got to think it is ok !
Itake it that the line rental they speak off replaces BT line rental, and therefore there will be noneed to pay BT anything, - or am I wrong ?

thanks Dangermouse 75, I had read it, but if you have to pay their International line charge and BT as well then it is not free ! It would be ok if you did not have to pay for BT, but I do not see anyway out of it.

Hi Cauldbum,
You switch from paying your line rental from BT to Talk Talk,
TalkTalk line rental to take advantage of our Talk3 International call package* and our free broadband offer. On some plans you can keep your line rental with BT, but you may as well move it to TalkTalk. We charge the same as BT and you'd only get one bill. We will take responsibility for your line (although we still use experienced BT engineers for any faults) and we'll start billing you for line rental as well as calls. BT will send you a credit for any unused line rental you've paid them.
From FAQ - Talk Talk
I figured out what I pay now:
BT Line Rental £11 / month
BT Broadband £25 / month Total = £36
To what I would pay:
Talk Talk Line Rental: £11 / month
International Call Plan: £9.99 / month. Total = £21
Saving £15
The only things that bother me are:
Signing up for 18 months...
Problems with service - although BT are expensive, downages have been almost nil for me in 3 years. Will Talk Talk be as reliable?

Dangermouse75 I know it makes sense but there is still a nagging doubt, I accept now that the line is taken over by TalkTalk. My calculation at present, (exc.vat) would be 10.21 line and 17.99 Wanadoo making28.20 a month, moving to TT would save me 86.40 per year.Bit of a gamble I would say, but bearing in mind free calls to landlines it makes you think ! We are not big phone users only about 20.00 a month but that would be a saving of 240.00 per year plus the other 86.40

I'm not a big phone user, I proably spent about £13 a month on my pay as you talk mobile and next to nothing on land line calls.
I keep in touch with friends abroad through Skypeout calls and also with MSN Messenger. I'll use my mobile phone abroad when we stop getting overcharged- that's on it's way soon thankfully.
I'm glad that Talk Talk made the move as it will force others to follow. I think I'll wait til Virgin come up with a better deal. At present Virgin don't tie BB customers to a long contract which in the fast paced world of BB is a good thing.
Also I'm waiting to read some comments from Talk Talk BB either praising or slating the new service. Funny, I looked around but I can't find much feedback - they must have a back log of orders.

Have a think about this and give me your thoughts on TalkTalk
I have looked at the option 3 deal - All landline calls free at anytime for numbers starting with 01 or 02, but this does not include business landlines only domestic type landlines, and not forgetting the FREE Broadband. It is the latter part of the above that I am trying to gain information on i.e.
Anybody know what the broadband service is like or going to be like apart from the 8MB max speed which may end up the same as what I am on now around 1MB. Is there a good browser provided by this ISP?
The cynical part in me is saying 'FREE Broadband, then you won't be compensated for any Broadband downtime or non functionality caused by the amount of people using it at the same time or have any comeback for the lack of service available if it goes wrong because you are not paying for it in the first place'?
Any information would be welcome as it looks a good deal which I will definately take up if all the ducks are in a row.

i wanted to apply for their offer for businesses but they weren't really clear about their offer and obviously they can't connect you in less than a month. in the meantime i received a sales call of a company named Gateway Telecom. Their representative came over, everything was clear and their price was good. £18.99 for their 2MG connection and i've heard they will offer 8MG soon. I signed up and don't have any regrets.
i'm fed up of advertising saying it's "free" when it's not.
