Call for help
      #351283 - Sun Jun 03 2007 07:46 PM

Have just started a new website ( www.rateaplaceonline.co.uk) and would like some people to send a few reviews to add on to it. Have recently had a new edition to the family and finding it difficult to get out! This is not for any kind of profit just want the world to have a few more good nights out! (hopefully my boss will read it!)

Great idea for a website!

A couple of things in my opinion need looking at:

1. Your Email address I think needs to be done as a link.
Example: <a href="mailto:your@emailaddress.co.uk">Contact Me</a>

2. The Navigation in blue seems to be hard on the eyes to read.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, will try to get those sorted! If you could drop us a line of place who go to then hopefully the site can grow.

Again thanks

I agree, the blue links are definitly difficult to read. Also if you are concerned about accessibility you might want to add some ALT tags to your images.

A nicer confirmation page when submitting something via the contact form would be nice.

Overall though a nice clean looking attempt.

There must be something in the air - everyone I have spoken to on this forum has a review site of some sort.

I like the idea and one that I might well need to make use of myself with the recent arrival of number 3!

Here is my critique, for what it is worth:

The home page is a bit text heavy. What you have written is great, but I would put it on an "About" page. Instead, on the Home page, I would expect to see a shorter explanation of the aim of the site together with links to the latest places to be reviewed and details of where to send reviews. Finally, I have reservations about using a black background because it makes the text a bit difficult to read.

I hope some of my comments are helpful - they are not supposed to be negative, I just find that if everyone says how wonderful your site is, it can be difficult to improve it. Anyway, best of luck with your venture

As you have a young family, you might want to have a look at my site for parents. If you do, I would be interested to know what you think.

On your London page
http://www.rateaplaceonline.co.uk/London/London.htm

the link to West Midlands, page 2 has a typo error, 'page cannot be found'
http://www.rateaplaceonline.co.uk/Westmidlands/West%20Midlands%202.htm

The google ad' on the home page detracts from the main impact and your banners look like they were designed with WordArt.

There's an higglydy-piggldy look about the pages with the reviews on too, why not decide if the review goes under the hotel picture or at the side of it and keep it that way throughout.

Also perhaps you could have a 'submit' page with boxes to fill in to make the process easier.

Having said that, it seems a decent idea and it could be a bit like http://www.tripadvisor.com/ with holiday hotel reviews?
