Hello
I've put together a site to help amateurs and novices come to grips with DSLR/SLR photography. If you've just got into photography and you're keen to learn the basics the The Image Plane might be helpful.
Thanks for listening,
Sam

I'll have a good read of that when I get a chance, looks interesting.
I recently took the step up from an 'SLR style' (fuji s602) to a proper DSLR (canon 10D) and I've been having lots of fun so far.
I was struggling with my RAW workflow though - Canon's software is crap. Everybody seemed to recommend BreezeBrowser, but I didnt like that either and it costs about $100 or something.
And then I came across some brand new software, which Andy Rouse apparently had a hand in - and it's completely free. Rawshooter Essentials - I'm weeding through my RAW shots at a rate of knots now. It converts to JPEG/TIFF in the background while you're going through all your others. Very handy.

As I was posting, I just got a mailshot in.
You can now get the Canon 300D for just £399! A great entry into Digital SLR photography - it's a bit of a plasticy camera but for four hundred quid the quality is great and it's a good starting point. It's £449 with an 18-55mm lens here. They've slashed the price because the 350D has just come out.

Hello Paul
Thanks for responding. Thanks too for helping out.
Yes I had an email in today about the 300D. Amazing price when you think what it was selling for just 1 year ago.
I have a few concerns about the RAW format and how its usefulness and application have been taken out of context here and there, but you are right – Canon’s software lacks way too much to become part of anyone’s structured workflow. The free software you mention is all the talk of the forums just now, and little wonder.
Good luck with the 10D. From what I’ve read it’s an excellent camera. Have fun with it!
I hope The Image Plane has something that will help you on your way.
Good luck,
Sam

Thanks for the comments - I appreciate it!
No problem with the link, but I don't do a link page myself so I can't repay the compliment. However, if you feel I can be of any help at any time, just get in touch.
Good luck with your photography,
Sam
